Gina Cuff, a Newfoundland artist born in 1965, works in a variety of mediums, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, pen and ink, and graphite. With the exception of watercolor classes taught by Grand Falls artist Christopher Peet, her skills have been developed mainly through self-study and practice.
She loves to draw faces in graphite and can spend hours working on details, completely immersed in her work. She taps into her family, friends and local surroundings for subject matter, and has a particular fondness for old, abandoned Newfoundland structures.
Some of her favorite artists are Carl Larssen and Anders Zorn, both Swedish, Albrecht Durer, Frida Kahlo and Brueghel. One of her goals for the future is to focus on painting people in everyday scenes in oils.
Gina lives with her family and many pets in St. Philip's, a small community outside of St. John's.
